Meet Your Sitters!

Hi!  I'm Yvonne, and this is our beloved dog, Ginger.  We adopted her when she was 2 years old from the Hawaiian Humane Society.  She gave us 15 years of pure joy and then finally passed away in December 2005.  We still miss her very much.  My daughter, Ruth, is the hands-on gal in some of the photos on our site. Prior to starting Windward Pet Lovers, Ruth and I often took care of pets for neighbors and friends free of charge.  During those years, I never thought of doing pet sitting for a living, but I did dream of having my own business some day.  So in 2003, after leaving my 9-5 job, I decided that it would make all the sense in the world to find out more about pet sitting and about opening a business that would enable me to do what I love most -- spend time with animals.  Whenever I thought about what made me happiest, being around animals came to mind.  I thought about the way my daughter’s face always lit up when she came in contact with an animal and how animals responded to her sweet and gentle nature.  I decided that spending time with other people’s pets would enrich our lives as well as theirs.  So here we are.

My parents loved animals, so we grew up with a house full of pets.  They passed their love of animals on to me, and when my children were growing up, we always had pets of one kind or another.  Both my daughters became enthusiastic animal lovers from an early age.  Ruth is an avid reader and has studied all types of animals.  She has done volunteer work at the Hawaiian Humane Society, a Therapeutic Horsemanship Program, and the Wild Bird Rehab Haven.  She has also saved some baby birds by hand feeding them after they’ve fallen from their nests.

Raising a family & working full-time in my former life, and running Windward Pet Lovers in my present life has not allowed me much spare time for volunteer work, but I but I actively advocate for animals by writing letters to various companies and to our legislators whenever action is required.  For many years, I have donated to a number of organizations that work on behalf of animals, and I assist with the round-the-clock feedings whenever Ruth rescues a baby bird.
